ELLEgirl: Ok, what's the story behind the name 'Danity Kane'?
Dawn: In high school I didn't really fit in all the time. I drew this girl, Danity Kane, who made me feel like I didn't have to hide or be insecure. In the studio I was just drawing her again and the girls really liked what she represents.

EG: Some of you took a big risk in entering this competition, even entering without the full support of your parents. Were you scared or were you willing to do whatever it took?

D.Woods: I think that even if none of us were supported, we would've all fought, 'cause we're such fiery women who have never given up our dreams.

EG: Now that you're here, are you working hard? What's your schedule been like this week?
Aubrey: We've been in the studio every night until like 5 am. Diddy doesn't let us leave until we make a hit.

EG: Does having him around so much make you nervous?
Dawn: Yeah,it used to be intimidating during the competition...
Aundrea: We've seen him in flip-flops and sweats now.

EG: Working with a big power player like Diddy must have its perks, though.
Dawn: Oh yes it does. We actually had the privilege of working with Rodney Jerkins, Timbaland, Scott Storch-- I mean, these people that I knew growing up are making songs for us! And he has amazing vocal producers. They really gave us a chance to be a part of the process.

EG: Most big groups have one lead singer, but you are all stars! That's a dynamic people aren't used to. Does it ever make things difficult?
Aubrey: The reason our first single, Show Stopper, is so great is because we are five different individuals and everybody's flavor is on the record, but somehow we all come together as one.

Aundrea: Half the time Diddy didn't know who was singing what. You can hardly ever tell...and at the same time, even though we all have our unique styles and way that we sing, we've been able to blend the tonalities of really deep, lower voices with higher-pitched voices.

EG: Do you get to go to many shows and see other people perform?
Shannon: I think that's part of being successful--always being a student. If you ever think you have all the answers, you think you are the best, you're gonna close off so much.

EG: Fashion-wise, do you guys have some favorite brands?
Aubrey: I like Jimmy Choo.

Aundrea: And we always say these things because our stylist has spoiled us. Otherwise, it's Payless.

D.Woods: We can find you know something just like in the thrift store and hook it up with the right earrings you know. It's all in how you wear it.

EG: Do you ever feel like the show is edited in such a way that you come across badly or not quite accurately?
D.Woods: In the media, there's a tendency to give women characters. But in reality, there are so many different sides to a person. Maybe you love to be wild and crazy, you love to be at home cuddling to a movie, you cry and are extra-emotional about things that hurt you, you fight for things you believe in. Every woman embodies that, but on television, sometimes you get pigeonholed and that is what society is taught to be entertained by....

Aubrey: Some of us are addicted to reading those online forums, and honey let me tell you, 'She looks like a leather handbag that's been dragged through the dryer three times' did not make me feel good that day!

Aundrea: I don't think the TV show is going to be anything that defines us permanently, though. I think our music will define us.

EG: What is your dream of what could happen with Danity Kane?

Aubrey: To take over the world!

Dawn: What we have going on is so good, it hurts my head just thinking about it and I don't think anyone's tapped really into it yet.

D.Woods: We have big, big ideas for our future. Aside from achieving that #1 spot for an insane amount of weeks on Billboard and playing stadium shows, our dream is to change the game. We want to be the girl group that didn't go down like every other girl group has.

EG: Sing it, sister.
