Danity Kane Interview with FHM

It must be hard having every moment of your day documented on video. What's the most embarrassing thing to happen to you since starting the show?
Aubrey : For me, everything you saw on season one.
Shannon : I think I would say all those moments when we have no makeup on and we're drooling in our sleep.

You spend a lot of time with Diddy. What most surprised you about Mr. Combs?
Aubrey: With him, every day is a surprise. In a really good way, though. All the harshness you see on the show is done with the best intentions to make us better artists and better people.
Aundrea: What most surprised me is he's actually really, really funny.

How can a guy get your attention?
Aubrey: Just be who you are and act that way—that's what we're attracted to.
Dawn: We like humor, intellect—we like to be challenged. But if guys try too hard, it's unattractive. We're really down to earth and don't want some flashy guy. We like to party and have fun, but at the end of the day, it's all about intelligence and a sense of humor.
Aundrea: Just don't try too hard.

What was your first real “I'm famous” moment?
Dawn: We don't have those. We're really grounded, and each of us makes sure that none of us gets a big head.
Aubrey: Plus, we came up through a reality TV show, so every struggle is documented. Like, Mariah Carey's first audition? No one's seen that. If she rolled in wearing whack jeans or something, no one knows. But we can't forget any of the moments we've had as a group—the good or the bad.

Is there ever any jealousy or tension among the girls?
Aundrea: We're like sisters. We keep each other in check. Because we live together, we had to learn very quickly how to come together and get along.

A lot of people assume that artists are able to go into the studio and nail everything on the first take. What's the real deal?
D Woods: We live in the studio. You have your little square of the couch that you sit on all night. You become a studio rat—you learn everything. But you don't get perfection on one try. We're perfectionists too. We've said, “I'm sorry, I don't like the ‘puh' on that first verse!”

How did you pick the name Danity Kane?
Dawn: Because we have so many different styles going on and a lot of musical depth among the members of our group, we were looking for something that could describe all of us. We wanted five beautiful women to come under one name as if she [Danity Kane] was the name that represented all of us mixed together as one. We wanted to find something that we could define, but wouldn't define us.
Aubrey: ‘Danity Kane' is indefinable—you couldn't define it if you tried!
